About this course

The Dogging course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to safely perform dogging for use within the mining construction and general construction industries.

There are many benefits to getting your dogman ticket with the most important being able to sling a load safety. You will be the expert when it comes to the safety of the equipment, understanding what equipment can safely sling what size load and what method of slinging is required.

The following topics are covered within this dogging course:

  • You will learn the process to properly plan a new job
  • You will learn different slinging techniques
  • Plan and inspect the equipment for safety, load capacity and load shifting
  • You will learn how to prepare the site and lifting gear
  • You will become skilled at performing the task & will learn whistle, hand and 2-way radio signals
  • Shut down the job and clean up the worksite

If you are required to perform dogging work, you will need to hold a current High Risk Work Licence – Dogging DG. This is a nationally recognised dogman training course.

Training requirements

The following are required to commence enrolment in this dogging course to get your dogging ticket and perform dogging:

The following are required on the day of training and assessment for your dogging course

You will then be issued with your dogging licence and have a licence to perform dogging. As we are based in Mackay, you will find a number of Mackay dogging courses for dogging in Mackay and the surrounding areas.

Momentum High Risk Training will provide all training materials and stationery.

  • You’re welcome to bring your own lunch as fridges and crib rooms are available for use; or
  • Various lunch options are available close by at the Mackay Harbour

Inexperienced workers

Where the student is an inexperienced worker, they may require a longer timeframe to fully absorb the knowledge and practice the skills before being assessed. In this case, our trainer/assessor will recommend for the student to complete further training at their work site, under the mentorship of a supervisor, with training activities recorded in a logbook. After completing the nominal hours logbook training, and gaining the relevant knowledge and skills, the student will then return to MHRT once ready to be assessed.

Course outcomes

You will receive a Statement of Attainment in CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging issued by Halo Nation Training (RTO No. 32485) and an Candidate Assessment Summary will be emailed once you have been deemed competent.

To apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL), please contact Work Safe QLD online within 60 days of your completed assessment.  Please retain your Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) as proof of evidence until your HRWL arrives by mail.
