About this course

This Vehicle loading crane course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a vehicle loading crane in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries, as well as the operation of a vehicle loading crane with a capacity of less than 10 metre tonnes in general industry.

Vehicle loading crane means a crane mounted on a vehicle for the purpose of loading and unloading the vehicle.

Resources and infrastructure industries includes:

  • Metalliferous Mining (including Mineral Exploration and Metalliferous Processing)
  • Coal Mining (including Coal Handling and Preparation)
  • Drilling
  • Quarrying (extractive industries)
  • Civil Construction

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to completing this course to ensure it is suitable.

  • Plan and prepare for vehicle loading crane operations
  • Identify and address potential risks and hazards
  • Implement control measures
  • Perform pre-start, start-up, park-up, shutdown and vehicle positioning procedures
  • Operate and maintain a loading crane
  • Lift and position loads using crane controls and functions
  • Identify and respond to emergency situations
  • Carry out operator maintenance

RIIHAN203D – Conduct Lifting Operations or equivalent (e.g. RIIUND207D – Conduct Underground Lifting Operations) Or RIIHAN208E – Perform dogging or equivalent

Training requirements

The following is required to commence enrolment in the Vehicle loading crane course:

The following is required on the day of training and assessment:

  • Steel capped/composite boots
  • Long-sleeved, high visibility shirt (high visibility vests available for loan)
  • Long pants
  • Hard hat (some are available for loan)

Momentum High Risk Training will provide all training materials and stationery.

  • You’re welcome to bring your own lunch as fridges and crib rooms are available for use; or
  • Various lunch options are available close by at the Mackay Harbour

Course outcomes

You will receive a Statement of Attainment in RIIHAN307E – Operate A Vehicle Loading Crane once you have been deemed competent, issued by Mynesight (RTO No. 31900).
